War Merit Cross 1st Class.
The Duchy of Brunswick first established this award on October 23rd 1914. Then on
March 20th of 1918, a first class of the Cross was created in pin back form, with the existing Cross becoming the second class. This brought the Cross in line with awards of other German States like Prussia
with the Iron Cross.
The picture shows the front and back. Each one will come
with clutch back fasteners.
Why did we go with a pin back and not pin and catch? So these cannot be mixed up and mistaken for original items. So they can be attached and removed from uniforms, displays and shadow boxes
without making any large holes and are easy to adjust.
