The Glass of Frederick Carder
by Paul V. Gardner, p 216
Notes: Verre de Soie was first made by Frederick Carder at the Steuben Glass Works in Corning, NY, from about 1905 to 1930. It is an iridescent glass of soft white or very, very pale green. The name means “silk glass” and has the feel of silk. Designed during the final years of the Art Nouveau period and manufactured well into the Art Deco period, these pieces represent an important turning point in history, namely, the loss of innocence brought about by World War I.
This is a very hard to find, complete, flawless, set of 6. These pieces each have the Verre de Soie iridescent finish with strong colored highlights. The sherbets are engraved with the monogram, initial “M”.
Condition: Flawless. All pieces have the appearance of having never been used. No scratches or signs of wear. Very high manufacturing standards. No flaws or character marks. Very fine pieces.
