Steuben Glass was founded by Frederick Carder in 1903. Recognized as the world's foremost artisan glass house, Steuben glass was hand made by American craftsmen at the works in Corning NY.  Steuben glass was frequently the United States’ gift of State to foreign dignitaries. Steuben marketed no “seconds”. Items that did not meet their exacting production standards were destroyed by being smashed in a bin. Steuben, a recognized luxury brand and the ultimate in art glass.

first produced in the 1960's and in continuous production until Steuben's closing in December of 2011.
*Other sellers often give no details about an art glass item's condition.  "Excellent" and "Very good" can cover a lot of ground.  Currently a seller claiming to have an excellent item has most of the solid gold fly missing.  Due to the clarity of Steuben, display wear scratches on the bottom tend to be magnified throughout the design and can be very disappointing. Damaged or missing the gold fly devalues the piece. Inexperience with this art glass causes sellers to miss details that a collector knows to look for.  Finally, without the correct original box the piece can not be shipped safely, which only results in headaches later for the buyer.
