This wonderful Owl has the superb heft and clarity that is a hallmark of authentic Steuben with it's super sized eyes and pronounced beak, this is a larger figuirne at approx. 6" tall by 3" and over 3lbs of original 10M formula Steuben crystal.  This Steuben Owl is
new in original box with no chips, no cracks, no scratches and NO signs of display or base bottom wear,
correctly signed "Steuben" in diamond point script on the base bottom and made in USA by Steuben glass workers. This will come packed in it's vintage fine Steuben gift box with flannel bag and Steuben Care booklet.  This is not a reproduction or offshore made piece.
The Steuben Owl is a large and heavy hand made piece, not a molded hand cooler.  The owl's creation involved a number of complex tasks (most performed at over 2300 degrees.)  After mouth blowing the body form and attaching to the mouth blown base, the eyes were shaped and ground, then the beak and pupils of the eyes were engraved.  Finally the entire form was polished to it's sparkling brilliance.

Steuben Glass was founded by Frederick Carder in 1903. It was the world's foremost artisan glass house. Steuben was hand made by American craftsmen at the works in Corning NY.  Because it was hand made, each piece is unique.  Steuben glass was frequently the United States’ gift of State to foreign dignitaries. Steuben marketed no “seconds.”  Items that did not meet their exacting production standards were destroyed by being smashed in a bin. Steuben--a recognized luxury brand.

magnifying glass
and magnifies any base scratches and base wear so that they are annoying. That is why collectors seek items with no shelf or display wear.  Since Steuben closed in late 2011 it has become almost impossible to find scratch free gift worthy examples of this wonderful art glass.
