TOLIKAN Vase
Joel Smith Design 1990
Consider this rare large signed Steuben
Tolikan Vase
a vintage design based on graceful Native American Navajo pottery shapes. Tolikan is the Navajo word for "sweet water." On it's own it is sculptural but also beautiful with single stems or flowering branches. This work by Joel Smith, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and Steuben's Manager of Design for a number of years. This Tolikan Vase is shown on the left in the second photo. The Nimassi Bowl, shown on the right in the second photo is listed separately.
This very heavy large
Tolikan Vase
is in
new
in box condition with
no interior stains or clouding, no chips, no nicks or scratches, no cracks or bottom display wear.
It measures approx. 7" in diameter at the widest by 8" high and weighs about 6lbs. The Tolikan Vase will come with it's new Steuben box, wrapped in it's fine flannel Steuben labeled bag (with no fading, tears, stains or mildew/nicotine odors) and care booklet. Beautiful as a gift for someone close or a stunning addition to your own décor.
Steuben was renown for their rigorous attention to detail and for the high quality of their glass. They stated in their literature that they did not market "seconds". In fact, they noted that such pieces were destroyed in house. Steuben Glass was founded by Frederick Carder in 1903 and was located in the Fingerlakes Region of New York State. By following strict standards for design and manufacture they achieved recognition as the world's premier glassworks. Steuben Glass was frequently the gift of state by US Presidents to foreign dignitaries. Steuben is a luxury brand. Because of these factors, a well maintained handmade Steuben collectible is likely to increase in value over time.
A very fair buy it now price for a large heavy authentic mouth blown signed Steuben work with no hidden reserve. Since the glassworks closing in 2011 it is nearly impossible to find gift worthy examples of this art glass.
