    Description

    This
    versatile
    Reddish Brown and Cream
color shoulder Bag was handwoven on a back strap loom
    in the community of
    Santo Tomas Jalieza in Oaxaca
. These weavers are known mostly for their belt making, but they also make Bags, table runners, pillows, Dog Collars and Ponchos.
There is a flap at the top that ties shut with two long braided ties and tassels.
    Please note there is no lining in this bag (see photo #5)... These talented weavers have incorporated images of animals on the front, i believe they are;
Deer, Eagles and Lions.  On the back side are two
    larger
    plumed dancers
.  You will see these amazing dancers at all the
    festivals
    in Oaxaca (see photo #7).
    It measures
: 14 1/2 inches tall by 13 1/4 wide and 1 1/2 inches deep.  The strap measures 33 inches long for a 16 1/2 inch drop and 2 inches wide.
The women from this community have been doing this type of
weaving on a back strap looms for centuries
(see 6th photo).  Their belts have been transported and traded with the Mayan Women of Guatemala from historic times.
When you purchase pieces that are made in
Mexico you are helping to support these women save their cultural traditions and history.
    It's a great example of
    contemporary fashion trends like
; Frida Kahlo, Bohemian, Hippie, South Western, Boho, Peasant, Santa Fe, Fiesta, Cowgirl style.
