Description
The Friedrich-August Cross (Friedrich-August-Kreuz) was a German
decoration of WWI which was established by the Grand Duke of Oldenburg on 24
September 1914. It was awarded in two grades – 2nd and 1st
Class - to soldiers and civilians who demonstrated outstanding service during the war. The fist class grade of the award was made of
blackened iron.This
is a fully-functional replica of the first class grade of the medal. It features black iron cross with a laurel
wreath between the arms. The center of the cross has a circular central
medallion with the initials “FA” – Friedrich-August. The Oldenburg
crown appears on the upper arm of the cross, with the lower arm carrying the
date 1914. The reverse has a pin and catch mechanism. My
replica is not magnetic. It measures 45.5 mm across, just like the
originals. It weighs 16 grams (1.6 oz.)
