Cipher
An enigma that won't be cracked anytime soon at Bletchley Park!! For the serious collector, consider this magnificent signed hand engraved Steuben masterwork
Enigma
.
This design was part of a series called "Studies in Crystal" first displayed at an exhibition in London in 1955 at Park Lane House. "The Queen herself [Elizabeth II] made a visit to the show, stopping to be photographed with Arthur Houghton as she puzzled, appropriately, over Enigma."* This design was by master glass artist Donald Pollard, with the complex copper wheel hand engraving that Steuben was renown for.
Enigma depicts a man and woman floating in the ethereal crystal. The man reaches up with one hand as in supplication to the heavens and extends the other hand to the woman. The large and heavy sculpture is cut with two large intersecting ovoid shapes. This crystal magnifies and refracts the light brilliantly.
A very special gift for birthday, anniversary or the collector. Do you need an excuse to add to your Steuben collection? (over a billion items on eBay each day, but only one of this design in collector worthy condition, truly rare.)
At approx. 12" tall and approx. 9lbs, this
Steuben Enigma
is crystal clear with
no nicks, no chips, no scratches or signs
of use to the glass and no display wear
. This is fully signed "steuben" in script on the bottom edge. The vintage box is in fine condition too!!
The Steuben Enigma will be set into a larger sturdy outer box for safety, with
FREE INSURED EXPRESS SHIPPING
to lower US 48 States with NO customs import duties or fees within the USA. No fake "hidden reserve" to waste your time. You will be thrilled with this beautiful work of art.
I have set a very fair price for this wonderful very rare Steuben masterwork
.
Hand engraved designs were Steuben's most expensive pieces. When this design was briefly available in 1955, it was more expensive than the Steuben
Cathedral
design (which last retailed for ,000.)
Steuben Glass was founded by Frederick Carder in 1903. Recognized as the world's foremost artisan glass house, Steuben glass was hand made by American craftsmen at the works in Corning NY. Steuben glass was frequently the United States’ gift of State to foreign dignitaries. Steuben marketed no “seconds”. Items that did not meet their exacting production standards were destroyed by being smashed in a bin. Steuben, a recognized luxury brand and the ultimate in art glass.
