    Tensei is my line of restored Japanese made flutes. I collected this one in 2014 in Japan when I was on my Asian Cultural Council grant to study Edo Period instruments and early shakuhachi music of the Komuso zen monks. In Japanese, Tensei translates to "rebirth of music". I am proud and humbled to be able to offer these flutes a second life in my low-impact approach to repairs.  Wooden flutes in Japan are made for serious students of contemporary musicians who can not afford well-made bamboo instruments. They are the best way to start unless one has a teacher to guide them into buying a proper well made instrument. Professionals who use these as back up instruments have them fine-tuned for more dynamic response. This one was fine-tuned by me personally and plays at the highest level for a wooden shakuhachi. As a 2.0 length, its longer than the standard 1.8 and has a deeper, warmer vibratory voice. It's fluid and easy across both octaves. It can handle all the traditional fingerings of shakuhachi music. The Kinkyo Ryu style utagugi paint is original but a little worn. This does not affect the playability in any way.
